Quinton Fortune (born May 21, 1977 in Cape Town) is a South African football player. He currently plays for Bolton Wanderers.
Fortune left South Africa at the age of 14 and moved to England where he played for the Tottenham Hotspur junior team, but never made an senior appearance for the club. He then moved to Spain where he played for Atlético Madrid.
Manchester United purchased him from Atlético Madrid on 1 August 1999. He made his first appearance for the club on 30 August 1999 against Newcastle United.
Fortune was initially brought to United as cover for Ryan Giggs and was thought of primarily as an attacking left-sided midfielder. Fortune, however, proved himself a capable and dedicated performer in a number of positions. It was Fortune's strength as a defender, rather than his qualities as an attacker, that Sir Alex Ferguson depended most on, and Fortune was often deployed as an uncompromising central midfielder or a solid, no-nonsense left-back.
Fortune was released by Manchester United in 2006. He was offered a contract by Celtic F.C. but rejected it on the grounds that the length of the contract was too short. He was also linked with Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers.
Bolton took him on trial in the summer of 2006 and where very keen on signing him after he impressed at their summer training camp in Switzerland. On 26 July 2006 he signed a one-year deal with Bolton.
Fortune also plays for South Africa, and played in the 1998 and the 2002 World Cups.
Fortune has also set up a football club in South Africa called FC Fortune, now known as Western Province United.
