Caledonia is a village in Racine County, Wisconsin, United States. Prior to January 2006, Caledonia was a town. After the state government denied Caledonia's request to become a village, the state legislature enacted a special exemption, allowing Caledonia to proceed. A subsequent referendum allowed Caledonia to become a village. The population was 23,614 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 126.0 km² (48.7 mi²). 117.8 km² (45.5 mi²) of it is land and 8.2 km² (3.2 mi²) of it (6.51%) is water.

As of the census² of 2000, there were 23,614 people, 8,549 households, and 6,805 families residing in the town. The population density was 200.4/km² (519.1/mi²). There were 8,839 housing units at an average density of 75.0/km² (194.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 94.18% White, 1.99% African American, 0.42% Native American, 1.27% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.91% from other races, and 1.18% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.12% of the population.

There were 8,549 households out of which 36.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 69.4% were married couples living together, 7.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.4% were non-families. 16.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.04.

In the town the population was spread out with 26.0% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $61,647, and the median income for a family was $68,043. Males had a median income of $46,939 versus $30,859 for females. The per capita income for the town was $26,031. About 2.1% of families and 3.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.1% of those under age 18 and 10.0% of those age 65 or over.

Caledonia is considering and may attempt removing its community from the Racine Unified School District. There is talk that Sturtevant, Mount Pleasant, Wind Point, and North Bay may do the same. [1] [2]
