Ralph Nelson

Ralph Nelson (August 12, 1916 - December 21, 1987) was an American movie and television director, producer, writer, and actor.

He is best known for his direction of the 1968 movie Charly, as well as several racially provocative films in the 1960s and early 1970s, including Lilies of the Field, ...tick...tick...tick..., and Soldier Blue. Nelson also directed both the original television and movie versions of Rod Serling's Requiem for a Heavyweight in 1956 and 1962, and wrote and directed the television drama about mounting the live show of Requiem for a Heavyweight called The Man in the Funny Suit (1960), in which Rod Serling, Keenan Wynn, and Ed Wynn played themselves.

He was born in New York City and died in Santa Monica, California.

He was the father of Ted Nelson, Ralph, Peter and Meredith.
