Randolph County is a county of the U.S. state of Alabama. Its name is in honor of John Randolph, a member of the United States Senate from Virginia. As of 2000 the population was 22,380. Its county seat is Wedowee. Randolph County is a prohibition or dry county.

Randolph County was established on December 18, 1832.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,513 km² (584 mi²). 1,505 km² (581 mi²) of it is land and 8 km² (3 mi²) of it (0.52%) is water.

As of the census² of 2000, there were 22,380 people, 8,642 households, and 6,222 families residing in the county. The population density was 15/km² (38/mi²). There were 10,285 housing units at an average density of 7/km² (18/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 76.38% White, 22.24% Black or African American, 0.20% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.34% from other races, and 0.62% from two or more races. 1.22% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 8,642 households out of which 31.10% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.20% were married couples living together, 12.20% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.00% were non-families. 25.60% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.50% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.02.

In the county the population was spread out with 25.10% under the age of 18, 8.70% from 18 to 24, 26.80% from 25 to 44, 23.50% from 45 to 64, and 15.90% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 93.40 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.00 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $28,675, and the median income for a family was $34,684. Males had a median income of $27,069 versus $20,323 for females. The per capita income for the county was $14,147. About 12.60% of families and 17.00% of the population were below the poverty line, including 22.10% of those under age 18 and 14.80% of those age 65 or over.
