Rare is a word used to denote low numbers of abundance.
Rare species, in biology, is a conservation category designating the scarcity of an organism and implying a threat to its viability.
In the cooking of beef and other meat products, rare is a term used to indicate that the meat is still quite uncooked on the inside and just cooked on the surface. See temperature (meat).
