Rhys Sutherland

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rhys Sutherland was a fictional character in the Australian soap opera Home and Away, portrayed by actor Michael Beckley from 2000 to late 2004.

Rhys moved to Summer Bay in early 2000, with his wife Shelley (Paula Forrest) and his teenaged daughters, Dani (Tammin Sursok), Kirsty (Christie Hayes) and Jade (Kate Garven).

Rhys was fiercely protective of his daughters, disapproving of most of their boyfriends. Most notably when Kirsty married Kane Phillips (Sam Atwell), who had raped Dani two years prior. Although eventually the Sutherland clan came to accept this marriage.

Rhys and Shelley's marriage fell apart in late 2002, when it was discovered that Rhys had a long-lost son, Dylan (Brett Hicks-Maitland), as a result of a one-night stand with Angie Russell (Laurie Foell) almost twenty years ago. Despite Revelations that Dylan wasn't Rhys' son, Shelley divorced Rhys and moved to Sydney.

Rhys found happiness again in early 2003, when he met Beth Hunter (Clarissa House). Dani was dating her son Scott (Kip Gamblin). Rhys and Beth married in February 2004, but later that year, Rhys and Shelley reconnected and began an adulterous affair. Rhys ultimately moved to Sydney to live with Shelley.
