Ribera del Duero

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ribera del Duero is a wine-making region of northwest central Spain, extending across the province of Burgos and province of Valladolid, both of which are part of the autonomous community of Castile and León.

The Ribera del Duero wine region actually stretches along the "banks of the Duero"—hence its name—upstream and east from Valladolid to San Esteban de Gormaz in the province of Soria. National highway N122 follows the river valley.

Pesquera is a town in the Ribera del Duero region that is noted for its red wine, balanced and fruity. However the area around La Horra (another small town in the region) is respected by locals for its consistently great wines. Viña Sastre is one of the wine makers in this area.

Vega Sicilia is probably the most famous wine maker in the region. Its customers include Prince Charles of the British royal family and Julio Iglesias, the famous Spanish singer.

Other notable bodegas include, Pingus, Alion, and Hacienda Monasterio, all of which lay along The Golden Mile, Spain.

Our main role at the Regulatory Council for the Designation of Origin Ribera del Duero (Roa, province of Burgos) is to vouch for the authenticity of the wines of our region by applying our D.O. trust seal to each bottle.
