Richard "Ribbs" Gibbs (born in 1955 in Bay Village, Ohio) is an American film composer and music producer, most notable for his film work in Dr. Dolittle, Big Momma's House, 101 Dalmatians II: Patch's London Adventure, Queen of the Damned and television work in the Battlestar Galactica miniseries.

Gibbs was raised in Wooster, Ohio and Daytona Beach, Florida. A spelling champ and National Merit finalist, he skipped his senior year of high school to attend the local community college, where he earned an AA degree in one year. He then went on to matriculate with a degree in classical composition from Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Gibbs was the keyboard player for the New Wave band Oingo Boingo from 1980 to 1984. He was also a session player, performing on over 150 albums for artists as diverse as War, Tom Waits, Robert Palmer, and Aretha Franklin. He also started the band Zuma II, which had an eponymously titled record released by Pasha/CBS Records. He has appeared live with Korn, The Staples, Chaka Khan, and Oingo Boingo.

Like his former bandmate Danny Elfman, Gibbs has embarked on a life of scoring movies and television shows. He has written the scores for over fifty films (Dr. Dolittle, Step Into Liquid, Say Anything and Queen of the Damned, among others) and acted as musical director and composer for various television shows, including Muppets Tonight!, The Simpsons, and Battlestar Galactica.

His critically well-received collaboration with Jonathan Davis (lead singer of Korn) on the songs and score for Queen of the Damned led to a gold record that is still selling quite well.

He is currently working as the producer for the yet-untitled second full length record for the Warner Bros. Records band Eisley. Pre-production took place in Tyler, TX, home of the band, and tracking took place in Malibu in Richard Gibbs' studio The Woodshed in mid-September of 2006. The record will likely be released in early 2007. He also found the time to serve as music director and arranger for Korn's appearance on MTV Unplugged, to be broadcast in February 2007. He is producing the record of that event, due to arrive in February as well.

He moved to California in the 1970s. He and his wife Linda have three children: Keegan, Riley, and Katelin. They are all avid surfers.
