Rockland, Ontario

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rockland is a bilingual (mostly francophone) community located about 25 kilometers east of Ottawa in Canada, in the city of Clarence-Rockland. In 1868 a sawmill was built here by William Cameron Edwards on the Ottawa River, followed by a link to the Grand Trunk Railway in 1888. Edwards, who held timber rights in the area and was also the first postmaster, named the area for the rocky nature of its landscape.

Rockland has a population of 12,637 [1].

Home of the Rockland Nats Midget hockey team, Rockland supporters come from all around to watch their beloved Nats battle against league rivals. 2005/2006 leading scorer Graeme Boucher was notabily suspended 22 games after a stick-swinging incident with fellow teammate Shawn Seguin. The Nats finished the season 8-16-1, a franchise best.
