Rod Welford

Rod Welford (born 30 September 1958 in Brisbane) is a Queensland, Australia state politician. He was first elected to be a member of the Queensland Parliament in 1989 in the seat of Stafford for the Labor Party. At the 1992 election he successfully stood in the seat of Everton, for which he is still the sitting member.

He is currently Minister for Education, Training and the Arts.

Previously he was the Attorney-General of Queensland (22 February 2001 - 28 July 2005).

Welford was a prominent solicitor and barrister prior to entering politics. He is active in his community being a member of the Royal Lifesaving Society, a patron of the Albany Creek Junion Rugby League Football Club, the Pinehills Sports Club and the Mitchelton Senior Citizens Association. His personal interests include philosophy, permaculture, swimming, surfing and reading.
