The music video portrays a school dance inside a gym, where Brown meets a girl that he suddenly is attracted to and wants to dance with. At the end, the security guards arrive, and the whole gym is evacuated. However, as soon as the guards find nobody there, they start dancing. The video received nominations for Best New Artist and Viewer's Choice at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards, but did not win either of these.

In the UK, "Run It" sold more physical singles than the number 1 single, "Nasty Girl" by Notorious BIG featuring Diddy, Nelly, Jagged Edge and Avery Storm. However "Nasty Girl" overtook "Run It" due to download sales, a rule introduced by The Official UK Charts Company in 2005.
