S. M. Krishna

Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna, generally referred to as S M Krishna (born 1932) is the Governor of the Indian state of Maharashtra. He was also the chief minister of the southern state of Karnataka from October 1999 to May 2004.
S.M. Krishna is the son of S.C. Mallaiah. He completed his Bachelor's in Arts from Maharaja's College, Mysore and obtained a Law degree from Government Law College, Bangalore. Krishna studied in the United States, graduating from the Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and George Washington University, Washington D.C, where he was a Fulbright Scholar. He was married to Prema on April 29, 1964 and has two daughters. Krishna is an avid sportsperson and plays tennis regularly.
He is often credited towards making Bangalore investor friendly. He encouraged partnership between the government and private sector, particularly with the initiative of the Bangalore Action Task Force (BATF) while he was the chief minister of Karnataka. He introduced many initiatives to encourage investment in the Information Technology and BPO/ITES sectors. He is considered a very efficient administrator and a capable Chief Minister the state of Karnataka ever had. Infrastructure was given prime importance during his reign as Chief Minister. He has been counted among the best chief ministers the country has ever had
