IMDb profile

Saamy is a 2003 Tamil movie starring Vikram, Trisha and Vivek. The film is directed by Hari and music was composed by Harris Jayaraj. This film was a blockbuster of the year and was a musical hit too. This film was later remade into Telugu as Lakshmi Narasimha.

Aaruchami (Vikram) is a Deputy Commissioner of Police of Tirunelveli who efficiently brings the city under control. Aaruchami arrives at Tirunelveli after being in exile for some years after being wrongly accused of bribery by corrupt politicians. He meets Bhuvana while searching for a rental house in tirunelveli. He is always accompanied by Ramesh Kanna who is also an Inspector. Meanwhile, he romances Bhuvana (Trisha), a college going brahmin girl. At the outset, he pretends to be a corrupt cop by accepting bribes from the very influential Annachi. Later Saami starts to rebel against him and the rest is how he succeeds in expelling the corrupt politicians. The film is also noted for Vivek's comic relief in the form of a 'socially conscious' Brahmin.Though it is a hit,its a pure masala movie.

  • This film started a new genre of police and thief films in Tamil like Bheeshmar, Gambeeram, Anjaneya and many others which became hits.
  • Like other films directed by Hari this film also specialises a particular city and this time it is Tirunelveli.
  • Vikram used to take 30 raw eggs during the filming of Saamy. He increased his weight by 20 Kgs for this Film.
  • 90% of the film shot in Karaikudi.
  • Rajinikanth praised vikram for his coveted acting and lauded as the current SuperStar since he gave back to back hits(Gemini,Dhol,Saamy,Pithamagan).
