Saligrama Village

Saligrama Village is small 21 kms. north of Udupi or 81 kms. from Mangalore in Karnataka state of India.

Name derived from the scared stone Saligrama worshipped by the Vaishnavas (Hindu) as a form of god.

1.Guru Narashima Temple and Hanuman temple which has records dating few hundred years back. Koota Brahmins worship Narasimha as their Guru. Few Photographs are here.. [1]

2.Divine Park - the Divine Park is also a unique temple dedicated to Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda, an abode of Gods and Goddesses and a unique platform of Universal Religion. [2]

3.Also is the hometown of the famous Kannada writer K. Shivaram Karanth winner of Padmabhushana and Jnanapeetha awards.

4.Kalinga Navada - Yakshagana artist (Bhagavat)

5.Has its own Yakshagana troop (mela) known as saligrama mela.

6."Chain Karanth" - A very famous cook at Saligrama.His actual name is Subramanya Karanth.But people call him as "Chain Karanth".He is a versatile man.

9. Mantap hotel which has been around 25 years (or so..)

10. There is Sanskrit school near gurunarasimha temple (or within) where annually more than 100 students are being taught.

11. Almost the majority of houses has 'mangalore tiles' as roofs.

12. Kadabu, Shavige, Pathrode and Guliappa are favorite foods of Saligrama ppls (correct me if am wrong)

13. Yearly there is Car festival in GURU NARASIMHA devastana where thousands of people throng to seek blessings of divine god!

14.The Guruprasadita yakshagana mandali is the fame of saligrama yakshagana culture.

15.The main road has changed its name. Now it has a new name "Kota Shivarama karanta Road"

16.The famous spice of Saligrama is Sripathi Shenoy's "Mundakki Upkari". Nobody comes back without tasting it.
