Sally Hardesty is a fictional character, the heroine of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre. She is played by Marilyn Burns.
Sally, her brother Franklin Hardesty, and three of their friends were driving through rural Texas to visit their grandparents' graves when they picked up a deranged hitchhiker, who eventually led them to an isolated farm. There, they were separated and systematically butchered by the monstrous Leatherface, and eaten by his family. She was the only survivor.
Sally escaped from Leatherface and his clan after fleeing their house and taking refuge in a passing pickup truck. Apparently, she was driven over the edge by the ordeal, and died in a mental institution in 1977.
