Sankt Veit an der Glan (Slovenian: Šentvid) is the capital of the district of the same name.

This town is a major point on the Glan River.
Sankt Veit consists of the following katastralgemeinden: Katastralgemeinden Galling, Hörzendorf, Niederdorf, Projern, Sankt Donat. It is further divided into the following districts, with population figures at right:

As mentioned in a 1131 document, a church was located here in ancient times. It was capital of the Duchy of Carinthia until 1518. Its town hall dates from 1468 and its old ducal castle from the 15th to 16th century.
As of the 2001 census, it has a population of 12,045. Of that, 92.5% are Austrian, 2.3% are Yugoslav, and 2.2% are Bosnian. 74.0% of the population profess themselves to be Roman Catholic, 8.6% are Evangelist church and 4.3% are Muslims, while 10.2% are without religious confession.
