Sanpada

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sanpada is a residential node developed by CIDCO since late 1980's. Sanpada as i remember when i

first visited it had fields and lakes, plenty of open spaces; fishermen carrying their days catch

from the lakes and the creek could been seen warily walking back to their homes which today is

referred today as Sanpada gaon (village), there were bugs and beetles and marshy

soil everywhere with tall grass on the dry land. All this has changed, and what stands on this land

is a concrete jungle. Apartments are selling like hot cakes fueled by the market boom, The population

has exploded dramatically during the last 5 years and the property rates have sky rocketed. What used

to be a quiet suburb has changed into a bustling residential area with chaotic roads, an overflowing

subway, with acute shortage of open space.

Sanpada was initially a landlocked area surrounded with a highway on one sides and railway lines

on the other two sides, but brand Sanpada worked so well that the area bang opposite the Juinagar

station is being called Sanpada in a hope to catch-on a little bit of the Sanpada sheen. Sanpada has

expanded considerably with new building projects springing up every other day.

Sanpada has problems like the exhaust from the herdillia chemical plant, the black dust from the

rock mine explosions, the concrete from the new building being developed, the pollution from the

highway, shortage of water, the constant power cuts, robberies, to name a few.

Sanpada has been divided into sectors based of the size of the flats hence socio-economically

dividing the demography, but the limited resources and civic amenities results into a constant tug of

war between the residents. for example the park in sector-7 is being used by, the so called Sanpada

gaon residents for playing cricket matches, which incidentally always takes place during the 10th

grade exams, supported by local politicians the general working class public ends up being a mute

spectator.

Sanpada has virtually no Bus transportation inside the residential area, the three wheeler autos

charge exorbitantly with no sharing facility, the car park outside the station is well known for the

car thefts, but it does have a good railway network connecting VT, Thane and Panvel.

It has a mini digital theater with two screens (Funsquare), a monginese pastry shop, a sweetmeat

shop for snacks (Badhaii), a mini vegetable market, a mini store for grocery(foodland), couple of

driving schools(maruti, pravasi, tanvi), auto mechanics, Novelty stores, etc. it is self sufficient

in many ways. but if you need to hang out with friends, this is not the place. just a beehive with

necessities available to sustain a life in this dirty Concrete Jungle.
