Sasmuan, Pampanga

Sasmuan (formally written Sexmoan in Spanish ortography) is a municipality in the province of Pampanga, Philippines. According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 23,359 people in 4,343 households.

Sasmuan had a well developed system of government even before the Spaniards came. Sasmuan was one of the major settlements in Pampanga during the 16th century. The Santa Lucia church was the first church built by the Spaniards in the province. It is one of, if not the only church built by a river in the Philippines.
Sasmuan is politically subdivided into 12 barangays.

Sasmuan has a unique geography in that it is surrounded by fish ponds. Aquaculture has been the main industry that drives the local economy.
