The Saturn Astra is a compact car to be produced for the 2008 model year by the Saturn division of American automaker General Motors. It will be a rebadged Opel Astra intended to replace the ION as the company's smallest model. The Astra will be based on the Delta platform and will be built in Antwerp, Belgium.

The 2008 Saturn Astra will be sold in three-door and five-door hatchback body styles, with sales starting in autumn 2007. The Astra will use a 1.8-liter straight-4 gasoline engine producing 140 hp and be mated to a four-speed automatic transmission or a five-speed manual transmission. The highest performance Astra, likely to appear as the Astra Red Line, will feature a 2.0-liter turbo producing 237 hp.

Because the Saturn Astra will not be available as a sedan, GM is predicting sales of between 30,000 and 40,000 a year, less than half the 100,000 achieved by the ION. The Saturn Astra debuted during the 2007 Chicago Auto Show. [1][2]
