School Students Against War (SSAW, formerly School Students Against the War) is an active school students' anti-war group based in the UK. It was established in 2003 as a youth off-shoot of the Stop the War Coalition which opposes the Iraq war. It was formed by the Stop the War Coalition.
The organisation was involved in the wave of school student protests against the 2003 invasion of Iraq, which received considerable media attention.[1] Since then it has organised and supported a number of smaller protests, including a march against George W. Bush's visit to London in November 2003 and the UK G8 summit protests in July 2005.
SSAW has also been involved in anti-arms trade campaigns including Disarm Dsei, the campaign against climate change and the Stop Deporting Children campaign.
Due to the organisation's nature, it has a relatively high turnover rate as members leave to go to university or into work so SSAW has to constantly review its membership and recruit new members.
School Students Against War has received considerable media coverage on television and in the news. They have been featured on a Channel 4 documentary on political activism, various news programmes as well as the newspapers (The Guardian, Daily Mail, Independent, Socialist Worker, Morning Star).
At the moment, the organisation has groups in Cardiff, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Canterbury, Bristol and London. They urge all who wish to get involved to get in touch via their web-site or the e-mail contact@ssaw.org.uk
