Christoph Schubert (born February 5, 1982 in Munich, Germany) is a professional ice hockey player for the Ottawa Senators.

In his 2005-06 rookie season, Schubert was largely limited in his role as a seventh defenceman, but as Ottawa forwards began succumbing to injury, Schubert was given a chance to play as a forward. His intensity and physical playing style earned him a bona fide role on the team's fourth line, playing 56 regular season and 7 playoff games over the course of the year.

Ottawa Senators' head coach Bryan Murray, seem to enjoy having the luxury of a seventh defenceman dressed on any given night Schubert is playing forward, in the event that one of the other six defencemen leave the game from injury or suspension. He is generally seen as a competent defenceman and a checking forward with some physical upside.

One of his greatest assets is his shot, which was measured at over a 100 mph in the 2005-06 Senator's Super Skills Competition -- giving him the second hardest shot in team history behind former teammate Zdeno Chara.

Ottawa radio sport show sometimes joke that the thing that hinders him in becoming a full-time NHL defenceman is his ability to play checking line forward. Around New's Years day 2007, he got promoted to the third line as a seventh defenceman.

Schubert played an important role for the German national ice hockey team in the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy.

He recorded his first career NHL goal on current teammate Martin Gerber vs. the Carolina Hurricanes on November 22, 2005.

This year he is on pace for around 25 points and 81 games, a considerable amount of more games compared to the 2005-06 season. In the super skills competition for the Senators, despite losing to Mike Fisher for the hardest shot, he achieved first place in the puck control relay portion. [1]
