Scottish Junior Football Association, Eastern Region

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Scottish Junior Football Association, Eastern Region league setup is a football competition comprising 63 clubs spread across three tiers of leagues: a Super League, a Premier League below, and three regional divisions forming the third tier: North, Central and South. It is a part of the Scottish Junior Football Association (SJFA) league setup.

The SJFA is split into three regions which organise their own distinct league and cup competitions. The SJFA used to be split into six regions, but in 2002 they took the decision to reform into three to try and ensure more games between the top clubs and hence increase their revenues. Hence, the Lothian, Tayside and Fife divisions were merged into a new Eastern region.

The Eastern setup consisted of the Tayside Premier (with Tayside Division One below), Fife District League and Lothians Division One (with Lothians Division Two below.)

While the Eastern Region was formed by the amalgamation of the Tayside, Fife and former Eastern regions, the system has now changed. As of 2006, the league set-up in the region comprises a "Super League" combining the best teams from these former regions, a Premier League below, and three regional leagues below that.

At the end of 2006/07 season, clubs will be promoted and relegated between the Superleague and the Premier League. One club from each of the lowest-tier divisions will be promoted to the Premier League, with three Premier League sides being relegated to a regional division corresponding roughly to their geographical area.
