The constituency replaces that of Crosby along with part of Knowsley North and Sefton East, which will both be abolished. The new constituency will cover Crosby, Formby and Maghull in the metropolitan borough of Sefton. The electoral wards in the new constituency as follows:

This seat will be fought for the first time at the 54th United Kingdom general election, which must be held by 2010, although is more likely to be held in 2009.

Four of the seven wards are currently controlled by the Conservatives; (Blundellsands, Harington, Manor, Ravenmeols), followed by the Liberal Democrats who control three; (Molyneux, Park, Sudell). Share of the vote based on the 2007 local election in these seven wards is: Conservative 41.1% Liberal Democrat 34.6% Labour 21.4%. However local election results do not always have a direct bearing on general election results.
