Voices of september 11th

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Voices of September 11th (VOICES) is a nonprofit which provides services and support for those impacted by the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This support includes mental health programs led by VOICES’ counseling professionals and annual special events. Founded shortly after 9/11, VOICES acts as a worldwide clearinghouse of information to its nearly 6,000 members, distributing a weekly e-newsletter and disseminating up-to-date information via a recently redesigned and vibrant website, www.voicesofsept11.org. VOICES was instrumental in pressing for the creation of the 9/11 Commission and is actively involved with advocating for the implementation of the 9/11 Commission’s recommendations, especially in the areas of prevention, preparedness and response.

In 2006 VOICES launched the 9/11 Living Memorial website, www.911livingmemorial.org, in collaboration with September’s Mission. The digital archive documents the lives of those who perished and the stories of survivors of the attacks on September 11, 2001 in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Shanksville, PA. The archive will also commemorate the lives of the victims and survivors of the February 26, 1993 WTC bombing. VOICES goal is to incorporate The 9/11 Living Memorial into the WTC Memorial Museum’s planned Digital Resource Center and make it available worldwide on the internet. Most recently, VOICES launched Voices for Kids, a section of its website dedicated to provide information and support to children and caregivers affected by terrorism. VOICES is led by Founding Director and clinical social worker Mary Fetchet, whose son Brad, 24, perished in the World Trade Center attacks.
