Serzh Sargsyan (Armenian Սերժ Սարգսյան, born on June 30, 1954 in Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabakh, is the current Prime Minister of Armenia. He was officially approved on 4 April 2007[1] (before that, he served only as acting PM from 26 March 2007 onwards). Before his term as PM, he was Defense Minister of Armenia and Chairman of its National Security Council. He will contest the 2008 presidential election with the backing of the conservative Republican Party of Armenia - a party of which he serves as chairman[1].

  • In 1995-1996 - head of State Security Department of RA, then- Minister of the National Security.
  • In 1996-1999 - Minister of Internal Affairs and National Security of the RA.
  • In 1999-1999 - Minister of the National Security of the RA.
  • In 1999-2000 - Chief of the Staff of the President of the RA.
  • 1999-2007 - Secretary of the National Security Council adjunct to the President of the RA.
  • 2000-2007 The Minister of Defence of the RA.
  • Since 4 April 2007 - the Prime Minister of RA.
  • Conferred Order of first Degree "Martakan Khach" ("Fighting Cross"), Hero of Artsakh, knight of "Voske Artsiv" (Golden Eagle) order, conferred order of "Tigran Mets".
  • Since 2006 has been a member of Republican Party of Armenia.
  • On 22 June 2006 was elected the chairman of RPA board.
  • Married, has two children.

Serzh Sargsyan was the organizer of many battles in the Nagorno-Karabakh war. He is considered to be one of the founders of Nagorno-Karabakh's and Armenian Military Forces. Currently, he is viewed as the strongest contender for the post of the President of Armenia in the upcoming elections.
