Shadow Mountain High School

Shadow Mountain High School' was opened in 1974. It is a public high school located in the north valley of Phoenix, Arizona. The school is part of the Paradise Valley Unified School District. The school's athletic teams are known as the Matadors. Shadow Mountain's school colors are blue and gold. As of 2005, 2077 students attended the school. Some notable Shadow Mountain alumni include Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, Sacramento Kings point guard Mike Bibby, award winning children's book writer "Captain" Dave Story, olympic gold medalist swimmer Misty Hyman, Detroit Lions wide receiver Shaun McDonald, Los Angeles Galaxy forward Robbie Findley, Pussycat Dolls member Ashley Roberts, race car drvier Buddy Rice, and actress Amy Davidson.

The boy's Cross Country team won the 5A-II State Championship on November 4, 2006.

The Varsity football team made it to the state play-offs in 2006. They also won their first homecoming game in 18 years, which was played against Desert Mountain High School.

The Shadow Mountain Marching Band hosted the 2006 Division III State Marching Festival and received the second highest rating. The band took first place at the 2006 Mountain Point Band Competition, and marched in the APS electric light parade. The Shadow Mountain color guard also earned the highest score of all Division III bands in the State of Arizona.They were also awarded best Marching Band in the PV district in 2006 and won a superior rating at every competition they competed in.

The Shadow Mountain Academic Decathlon team hosted the Arizona Region II competition on February 2-3, 2007. The team beat out 28 other schools, and took first place with 39,200 points.

Shadow Mountain is the only high school in the state of Arizona to have the matador as their mascot.
