He has a younger sister Kara and one younger brother Colton.

On The Real Housewives of Orange County, Shane is often depicted as arrogant, immature and misogynistic. In one episode, Shane calls another "Housewife" and close friend of his mother's, "Tits."

Keough entered the Major League Baseball Draft in 2005 and was drafted by the Oakland A's in the 36th round as a draft-and-follow[1][2] pick. According to Jeana Keough, roughly 1000 people were picked before him and he subsequently attended Yavapai College[3] in Arizona to gain more playing time and hopefuilly attract more attention from the scouts. He was signed by the A's in June, 2006. In the fall of 2006, he played outfield for the Phoenix Athletics in the Arizona League, which is classified as a rookie league or the lowest level of minor league baseball.

Besides Shane's father, his grandfather Marty and great-uncle Joe have both played in the major leagues.
