The single entered the UK Singles Chart at #84 (limited release), and made its official debut to the charts at #30 the following week, three weeks before its physical release. It peaked at #1 on 4 March 2007, dethroning the Kaiser Chiefs' "Ruby", and came off the top of the charts when it fell to #4 two weeks later. ("Ruby", however, kept "Shine" from reaching #1 on the Downloads chart, staying at #1 while "Shine" peaked at #2.)
Nonetheless, this became Take That's sixth consecutive #1 and its tenth #1 overall, making them one of only seven acts in the history of the UK charts to have more than nine #1 hits.
During its first week at #1 of the UK Singles Chart, the single rose from #20 to #2 on the Irish Singles Chart.
