Shooglenifty are an Edinburgh-based six-piece band with a wide international fan base. They are credited with having successfully fused Scottish traditional music with a variety of other styles, making it more suitable for the contemporary dance scene. Their wide range in influences, from blues to alternative rock, has resulted in their music being labelled as "hypno-folkedelic ambient trance" or "acid croft" at times. (see the article on Celtic Fusion for information on similar groups). They also contributed to Afro Celt Sound System's 1996 album Volume 1: Sound Magic.

The band have toured extensively, performing in Mexico, Denmark, Spain, Belgium, France, Norway, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, India, the United States, Australia, Cuba, Japan, Canada, and the Netherlands. They have also performed in front of Prince Charles, Tony Blair, Nelson Mandela and Emperor Akihito of Japan.
