River Pointe Shopping Center

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

River Pointe is a shopping center located in Algonquin, Illinois. One of Algonquin's first west-side shopping centers, it is located along the busy Randall Road business corridor. When it was first developed in the early 1990s, the area was primarily rural in nature, but however, several subdivisions began popping up in the area, necessitating a grocery store to serve them. River Pointe provided Algonquin with major Chicagoland grocer/pharmacy Jewel-Osco, a second McDonald's to complement its east-side location, Harris Bank, and several smaller shops. It revolutionized shopping center construction and aesthetics in the area, as it became the model shopping center and thus all subsequent centers in the area were expected to abide by or exceed River Pointe in design and appeal. River Pointe featured red brick facade, varied rooflines, architectural symmetry, landscaping, brick dumpster enclosures, benches, and so forth.

The center remained relatively the same for about a decade, when the center finally went forward with its expansion circa 2005, bringing three additional big box retailers, a restaurant, and more smaller shops.

The shopping center is owned by Craig Stevens Development.
