Sichuan language,Szechwanese sometimes means a language belonging to the Southwest Mandarin group, spoken in Sichuan China, and sometimes it means all languages spoken in Sichuan. It's spoken by about 120 million people. However, even within Sichuan province, people from different places may have slightly different accents. Sometimes this difference may cause difficulty in communication between two Sichuan-ese. Like all the other dialects, Sichuan dialect has some special words and characters which can not be written down in Chinese. Sichuan dialect is easy to recognize because it does not have any curling-tone sound. For example, all the "ch", "sh", "zh" sound in Mandarin is transformed into "c", "s", "z" in Sichuan dialect. To further distinguish the different accents inside Sichuan dialect, special attention needs to be paid to the pronunciation of vowels. Take Chengdu accent and Chongqing accent as an example. People from Chengdu will pronounce "an" really flat while Chongqing people will pronounce it with slightly more "ng" sound. Although Sichuan province is in Southwestern China, Sichuan dialect belongs to Northen dialect system, which also contains Beijing dialect and so one. So it is not difficult for people who knows Mandarin to understand the major part of Sichuan dialect. Meanwhile, generally speaking, Sichuan people can also communicate with people from Chongqing, Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi by using each others' own dialects.
