Sidi Mohamed Ould Boubacar

Sidi Mohamed Ould Boubacar (born May 31, 1957 in Atar, Mauritania)[1] is the current Prime Minister of Mauritania. He was appointed on August 7, 2005, following a military coup on August 3, by Col. Ely Ould Mohamed Vall, head of the Military Council for Justice and Democracy. Boubacar's appointment came shortly after the resignation of Sghair Ould M'Bareck, ousted president Maaouya Ould Taya's last prime minister.[2] During Taya's presidency, Boubacar had been prime minister from 1992 until he was dismissed on January 2, 1996.[3] He was subsequently his country's ambassador in France, beginning in 2004.[2] He is a member of PRDR, Mauritania's biggest party.

Like the members of Military Council for Justice and Democracy, Boubacar was not allowed to run for president in the March 2007 presidental election.[4] Following the election and the confirmation of the results by the Constitutional Council, Boubacar submitted his resignation to Vall on March 31; he is expected to remain in office in a caretaker capacity until the new president, Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdellahi, is sworn in on April 19.[5][6]
