Siemens COM
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Siemens COM was the communications and information business of German industrial conglomerate Siemens AG. It is the largest division of Siemens and is divided into Mobile Networks, Fixed Networks and Enterprise business units.
In 2005 and 2006, this division was the subject of much speculation regarding a possible sell-off or merger, with Motorola featuring prominently as a possible potential partner. However, on 19 June 2006, it was announced that Siemens COM (minus the Enterprise business unit), would merge in a 50%/50% joint venture with Nokia's Network Business Group in order to form Nokia Siemens Networks.
As of October 1, 2006 Siemens COM has been divided into two companies: The Carrier business (mobile networks, fixed networks, carrier services) have become part of a company called Siemens Networks GmbH & Co. KG and the Enterprise has moved to the company Siemens Enterprise Communications GmbH & Co. KG [1].
The Wireless Modules part of Siemens COM (which designs and manufactures GSM and 3G modules for the M2M markets) has moved to Siemens' Automation & Drives division.
