Sir Charles Tupper Secondary School, located in central Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, is named after Sir Charles Tupper, the Prime Minister of Canada from May 1, 1896 to July 8, 1896. Tupper's student population is roughly 1000 in recent years. Tupper came under media attention in December, 2003, when 17-year-old Filipino ESL student Mao Jomar Lanot was beaten to death by a group of Indo-Canadian youths from Killarney. His tragic death sparked discussions about racism in the community. A memorial was built outside of Tupper by students.
