Sister show
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sister shows are two or more television shows which exist in the same fictional universe and may regularly feature crossovers. They differ from spin-offs in that both (or multiple) series air nearly simultaneously (i.e. as 'siblings'), rather than one being exclusively derived from the other.
- CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami, and CSI: NY - Beginning in 2000, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation would be joined by its first sister show in 2002 (CSI: Miami) and its second in 2004 (CSI: NY).
- Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena, Warrior Princess - Hercules began airing before Xena, but after the Xena character proved popular she received her own series that aired at the same time as Hercules.
- Jack of All Trades and Cleopatra 2525 - Both shows aired together as part of the Back2Back Action Hour on UPN in 2000-2001.
- Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and Law & Order: Trial by Jury - Beginning in descending order by first premeire, the Law & Order franchise has spawned a total of four unique shows that have, at one time or another, featured new episodes during the same season.
- Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis - Stargate Atlantis premeired during the sixth season of Stargate SG-1. Both series featured plotlines that would interconnect with one another on occaision.
- Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Deep Space Nine began airing during the sixth season of The Next Generation. Several characters from the older series appeared in the newer series, but only one episode of The Next Generation (Birthright (TNG episode)) would feature characters from the new series.
- Petticoat Junction and Green Acres and The Beverly Hillbillies - All three shows take place in or around the fictional town of Hooterville. In the case of The Beverly Hillbillies, guest apperanaces are made by the characters and allusions are made in the show.
