"Sludge Factory" is a song by the Seattle Grunge/Heavy Metal group Alice in Chains off of their album of the same name. The song's structure is similar to that of Godflesh's "Christbait Rising" off their album Streetcleaner.
The song was written by Jerry Cantrell in 1991, and was considered for their breakthrough album Dirt, when it was decided to save the song. Layne Staley eventually wrote the lyrics to it, and it ultimately became one of the most popular songs off of their self titled album.
The song was performed at their MTV Unplugged, where Layne Staley infamously mixed the lyrics and screamed "Fuck!" before redoing the song. The song is also known to have been performed at least once while Alice in Chains was opening for the reunited Kiss in July 1996.
