Smoking fetishism ("capnolagnia") is a sexual fetish involving the mental connection of images of smoking with sexual excitement. Those (more commonly males) affected by the smoking fetish are sexually aroused by images of smoking, particularly smokers of the opposite sex. In some cases, sexual release may be impossible without the stimulus afforded by these images. Smoking fetishism has its roots in early childhood, possibly influenced by smoking activities of the mother during infancy. Commercial exploitation of the smoking fetish includes numerous vendors of videos of smoking, mostly women, sometimes including sexual acts which might be categorized as pornography.

Some of the earlier newsgroups that catered to the fetish were alt.smokers.glamour (ASG) and alt.sex.fetish.smokers (ASFS).[citation needed] Smoke Signals is a magazine oriented towards the fetish.[citation needed]
