Sole, real name Tim Holland, is co-founder of the alternative hip-hop collective known as anticon. Sole grew up in Portland, Maine where he met Alias (Brendan Whitney), a future member of anticon. Sole is also a producer and releases his self produced experiments under the alias 'mansbestfriend' (which was the name of his apple G4).

Sole is known for his dense, stream-of-consciousness lyrics and unorthodox delivery. Described as "Jack Kerouac meets Ice Cube meets David Koresh" (The Wire), Sole rarely rhymes his lines and his verses are generally introspective, subjective rants full of abstract metaphor and allusion.

He has recently finished work on his new album with acclaimed Florida trio "skyrider," and has also stated that the next mansbestfriend album will be instrumental, as will future albums released under the moniker.
