Born in South Korea on 8 Oct 1970, she was adopted by Mia Farrow and her then-husband Andre Previn when Soon-Yi was about 8 years old.[1]

Previn gained international attention in 1992 when it was revealed she was having a relationship with her mother's long-time romantic partner, Woody Allen.[citation needed] Her adoptive mother, Mia Farrow, had one biological and two adopted children with Allen. Farrow discovered the affair when she found nude photographs of her adopted daughter, taken by Allen in his apartment. The press coverage was negative, not only because of her familial relation to Allen's long-time partner and to his children, but also because of the 35-year age difference between Previn and Allen. The couple married on December 24, 1997 in the Palazzo Cavalli in Venice, Italy. They have two adopted daughters, Bechet Allen and Manzie Tio Allen, both named after jazz musicians (Sidney Bechet and Manzie Johnson).

Soon-Yi received a bachelor's degree in art from Drew University in 1995 and a master's degree in special education from Columbia University in 1998.
