South Killingholme is a village in North Lincolnshire, divided by the A160 dual cariageway. Considerably larger than its neighbour, North Killingholme, together they make up the area of Killingholme. It is slightly closer to Grimsby than to Scunthorpe.
The Humber[1] and Total oil refineries dramatically dominate the skyline around the village and there is much local opposition to their presence, particularly since a large explosion occurred at the ConocoPhillips refinery in 2001. ConocoPhillips runs a gala every August as a part of its community relations policy.
The village boasts a doctor's surgery, hairdressers, village shop, primary school, community centre, bowling green, park, chip shop as well as a highly-acclaimed sandwich shop along Top Road.
The public house is called the Cross Keys, which is primarily a Stones bitter and Carling lager establishment.
The village was featured on a programme produced for Sky One, Britain's Toughest Villages in 2003.
