St. Helena is a city in Napa County, California, United States. It is part of the Napa, California Metropolitan Statistical Area. Its area code 707. Its zip code is 94574. It is in the Pacific Daylight Time time zone. The population was 5,950 at the 2000 census.

Ellen White, co-founder of Seventh-day Adventism, had a home called Elmshaven near St. Helena, beginning in 1900. She died there in 1915 and the site is now a National Historic Landmark.

St. Helena is located at 38°30′10″N, 122°28′11″W (38.502858, -122.469648)GR1. The city has a total area of 4.74 sq mi (12.3 km²). Of that, 4.71 sq mi (12.2 km²) is land and 0.02 sq mi (0.1 km²) (0.4%) is water.GR2

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 5,950 people, 2,380 households, and 1,482 families residing in the city. The population density was 1263/sq mi (488/km²). There were 2,707 housing units at an average density of 575/sq mi (222/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 82.35% White, 0.44% African American, 0.45% Native American, 0.71% Asian, 0.17% Pacific Islander, 13.21% from other races, and 2.67% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 28.42% of the population.

There were 2,380 households out of which 30.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.3% were married couples living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7% were non-families. 31.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.19.

In the city the population was spread out with 25.1% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 24.9% from 45 to 64, and 17.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 85.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.0 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $58,902, and the median income for a family was $68,831. Males had a median income of $43,190 versus $35,357 for females. The per capita income for the city was $31,971. About 5.7% of families and 6.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.4% of those under age 18 and 9.3% of those age 65 or over.
