Apex including Apexstores.com, the Apex Tire & Service Center and Apex At Home make up the retail division of the Apex Companies based out of Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The Apex Companies were founded by Albert Pilavin in 1924. Apex was originally started as a tire retreading and manufacturing business which has grown over the past 80 plus years to include retail, online retail, commercial and residential real estate development, real estate management, ad specialty and wholseale and manufacturing businesses, amongst others. The retail divisions of Apex currently operate its original retail store in the Apex Mall located at 100 Main Street, Pawtucket, RI.

The retail division of the Apex Companies started by selling tires and eventually grew to sell a wide variety of merchandise. To accommodate the growth, the tire business was separated creating the Apex Tire & Service Center. Apex originally operated the one retail store at 505 Central Avenue in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Eventually the size of the retail store grew and moved to its current location at the Apex Mall at 100 Main Street, Pawtucket, R.I. The original Apex Tire & Service Center also moved from Central Avenue to the new Apex Mall location. Between 1960 and 1999, Apex expanded to open 2 additional department stores and one additional Apex Tire and Service center in Warwick Rhode Island and in Swansea, Massachusetts. Today, after closing the Warwick and Swansea locations in 2001, the retail division consists of the original Apex retail store location in Pawtucket, the Apex Online internet retail operations and the Apex Tire & Service Center; all of which are located and headquartered in Pawtucket, RI.

The selection of merchandise offered in the retail store continues to be varied including clothing, household appliances, kitchen and bath items.
