Stratford International station is a railway station located in Stratford in the London Borough of Newham in East London. The station has been built as part of work on the second phase of High Speed 1 and reached completion in April 2006. [1] The station forms part of the Stratford City redevelopment but will not become operational for a while after the CTRL opens. The opening of the station would depend on the time it takes to develop good communications to the station as much of the surrounding land is presently a construction site due to the location of the station, just inside the eastern boundary of the Olympic site.[2]

The owners of the CTRL - London and Continental Railways, have announced that they intend to brand services on the completed rail link as High Speed 1/HS1 from the official opening in November 2007. The station was opened for the annual open house weekend to visitors on the 16th and 17th of September.

The station is on High Speed 1 between St. Pancras International and Ebbsfleet International station. It is situated about 400 m from nearby Stratford Regional station, which is a major regional rail and tube transport hub. The new station will have four platforms and will be bisected by a ramp that the trains will use to get out of the station trench in order to reach the depot at Temple Mills.

The intended purpose of this station was to act as a London stop for regional Eurostar trains. However this plan is "under review"[3] and it is unlikely that Eurostar trains will call at the station initially.

There was also an issue with planning permission as the station requires easy access from the regional Stratford station, before the station can become operational. It was later decided that the link would be made via a planned extension of the Docklands Light Railway, which is expected to be operational by 2010. A previously proposed travelator link was scrapped. As a consequence, Eurostar trains are not now expected to call at the station until 2010.

The station will however be used for domestic high-speed services operated by Southeastern. During the 2012 Summer Olympics it will serve Stratford's Olympic Park. In particular, the Olympic Javelin trains will take passengers from St. Pancras in central London and from Ebbsfleet International to the Olympic facilities around Stratford International station.
