Strikers 1945 is a vertically scrolling shoot 'em up released in 1995 by Japanese company Psikyo. Mistakingly thought to be officially part of the 1942 video game series, it is considered to be more of a tribute to many fans. It was followed by two sequels, Strikers 1945 II in 1997 and Strikers 1945 III (also known as Strikers 1999 in Japan), and also a stand alone Neo Geo version called Strikers 1945 Plus.

Contents

At least one boss in Strikers 1945 is loosely based on a real World War II person.

  • Rommel, one of the end-level bosses in the game who is represented by a gigantic tank. This corelates with Erwin Rommel, as he was a tank-tactics expert.

All of the aircraft featured in Strikers 1945 are based on real World War II fighter planes.

  • P-38 (Lockheed P-38 Lightning)
  • P-51 (North American P-51 Mustang)
  • Spitfire (Supermarine Spitfire)
  • Bf-109 (Messerschmitt Bf-109/Me-109)
  • Zero (Mitsubishi A6M Zero)
  • Shinden (Kyushu J7W Shinden)

Each plane in Strikers 1945 has three attacks: A normal shot, a charged shot, and a bomb that clears the screen of minor enemies and bullets. Additionally, at least one of the planes can block bullets with a charged shot. Both the normal shot and the charged shot can be strengthened by grabbing power-ups and extra bombs can be collected. Gold bars, which are found by destroying certain buildings or enemies, can be collected for bonus points. After the defeat of the final boss, the player's time, number of gold bars, and number of enemies killed are added up for each level and, if high enough, marked with a silver or gold medal.
