Physically, Hsieh is small in stature but exhibits superb talents on the court with her pin-point accuracy and quickness. Her games are somewhat hindered by her lack of fitness and mental toughness. Hsieh holds her racquets two-handed on both sides and is extremely adapted to hit balls on the rise. Her aggresive style on the court is clear from her match statistics which typically would have winners in the range of 30s for two setters and 50s in three setters. Unfortunately, she also can make numerous unforced errors which is the pitfall of her games. During her junior career, she went as high as world number 7 at the age of 15 and had wins over likes of Maria Sharapova, Svetlana Kutznesova. In 2001, Hsieh played her first senior level ITF tournament at the age of 151/2 and won the first 5 ITF tournaments. She compiled a 37-2 W/L record finishing off by reaching, in her first WTA event, the semi final at Bali. Because of personal problems, mostly due to incompability issues with her father/coach, Hsieh went solo to train and played in small tournaments in Japan for about 2 years. Her ranking plummeted outside 400s during her hiatus to Japan. In 2005, Hsieh reunited with her father and began making her comeback. She again compiled a 26 straight wins which captured 4 consecutive 25K ITF tournaments. Currently, her single ranking is inside top 150.
