Sudhagad

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sudhagad is situated near a village called Pachapur near Pali in Maharashtra. The height of this fort is around 2030 feet and is well fortified by steep cliffs. Due to its qualities Sudhagad was actually proposed to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to make it the capital of Hindavi Swaraj. Shivaji Maharaj visited Sudhagad to survey it, but he chose Raigad because of its central location. Sudhagad like Raigad is a huge fort.

An easy trek leads to Mahadarwaja, Pant Sachiv wada, Takmak tok, Bhoraidevi temple, Shiv temple etc. There are lakes on the top of Sudhagad. It is said that BhoraiDevi is the presiding deity of the PantSachivs of Bhor village. That is why Sudhagad was earlier known as Bhorapgad. Later the Marathas changed the name to Sudhagad.

The best time to trek Sudhagad is during the rainy season as the whole region offers a spectacular view with picturesque surroundings. From the top, other forts like Sarasgad, Korigad, Dhangad, Taila-Baila etc. can be seen.
