Sunan International Airport (IATA: FNJICAO: ZKPY) is the main airport serving Pyongyang, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, located 24 km from the city's center.

Sunan has two runways, the largest of which (01/19) is used mainly for international flights. The second runway (17/35) is used for domestic and civil flights. The airport's hours of operation are from 06:00 to 22:00 in the summer and 07:00 to 21:00 in the winter.

The airport is the main hub of Air Koryo, which is also the only airline serving the airport on a regular basis. In 2000, Aeroflot discontinued its weekly Moscow flight due to poor loads. The last scheduled international airline to pull out of the airport is China Southern Airlines, which offered scheduled charter flights to and from Beijing during the peak season only, but announced it would permanently pull its flights in November 2006. Mandarin Airlines and Far Eastern Air Transport do, however, offer group tour chartered flights between Taipei and Pyongyang during summer (June to August). Korean Air and Asiana Airlines also provide chartered flight services to Incheon, the international airport serving Seoul, and Yangyang on the east coast of South Korea from Pyongyang. These flights are used by Korean family members visiting divided family across the border.

Air Koryo timetables released internationally only show year-round scheduled services to Bangkok, Beijing and Vladivostok, with seasonal service to Khabarovsk. The current schedule of Air Koryo (April 2007) shows that its only scheduled services are two weekly flights to Beijing. Travellers to North Korea have stated that the airport has domestic operations performed by Air Koryo a few times per week, though no timetables or confirmation from the airline or the government has confirmed this. All domestic destinations listed here are not confirmed.

  • Air China (Beijing) [begins January 2, 2008]
  • Air Koryo (Beijing, Chongjin, Hamhung, Kaesong, Kanggye, Khabarovsk (seasonal), Kilju, Samjiyon, Shenyang, Sinuiju, Vladivostok[1], Wonsan)

Charter flights are approved by the government of North Korea and operate only as organized tourism flights.

The airport has a car park, a business centre, disabled facilities, a duty free shop, passenger lounge, a taxi stand, Korea Trade Bank, and several souvenir shops. The airport also has a baggage storage facility; service hours are from 08:00 to 21:00 and the charge is 1.5 Korean Won (KPW) per piece.

The airport's book shop opens at 10:00. The airport's restaurant, bar and the Korea Foreign Trade Bank all operate from 09:00 to 18:00.
