Suraj Bhan

Suraj Bhan (Hindi: सुरज भान) (born 1 October 1928) is a former governor of the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh and of Himachal Pradesh.

He was born on October 1, 1928 in the village of Mehlanwali in the Yamuna Nagar district of Hariyana, and studied MA and LLB at Punjab and Kurukshetra University .

He was a senior leader of erstwhile Bharatiya Jana Sangh (now Bharatiya Janata Party). He represented Ambala parliamentary constituency of Haryana in the 4th, 6th and 11th Lok Sabhas. In 1987, he was elected to Haryana assembly and served as Revenue Minister in Devi Lal's government between 1987 and 1989. After the BJP broke alliance with Devi Lal's party, he served as Leader of Opposition in the Haryana assembly.

He was Agriculture minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's 13-day government in 1996. After the fall of the government, he was named deputy speaker of the 11th Lok Sabha. He contested 1998 Lok Sabha elections, but lost to Aman Kumar Nagra of the BSP. After, he took over first as governor of Uttar Pradesh, and then governor of Himachal Pradesh.
