The Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, a nuclear power station, is in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania just south of Shickshinny. It is operated by PPL and has two General Electric boiling water reactors on a site of 1,075 acres (4.4 km²), with about 1,000 employees working on site and another 400 employees in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
In 2007 PPL announced it would be applying for a license with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to add a third nuclear reactor at the plant.[1]
