Swadhyay

Swadhyay comes from the sanskrit word ("Swadhyay","Swadhyaya","Svadhyay" or "Svadhyaya") meaning study of one's own self for spiritual quest. In recent times it has become associated with the swadhyay Parivar though the belief is central to Jainism and prevalent among Jain practices.
Swadhyay is conducted in the Jain community to foster discussion and debate among Jains [1]. Swadhyaya is one of twelve kinds of penance in Jainism [2].
though jainism use word swadhyay frequesntly, swadhyay is a vedic phenomena. Word swadhyay has been use extensively in Bhagavad Gita and Mahabharat. Swadhyay is must for twice born classes, i.e. Brahmin, Kshatriya and Vaishya. Sudras could listen.
Second, Swadhyay is must in Ashtaang Yoga of Patanjali as a part of of Niyam.
